A recent national study has shown that a public employee is at higher risk of being sued than virtually any professional in the private sector. In addition to civil claims, law enforcement officers may face criminal prosecution as a result of unfounded allegations on the part of suspects, inmates and supervisors.
Baystate Legal Defense lawyers will be there for you
In support of employees of municipalities, counties and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, attorneys at Louison, Costello, Condon & Pfaff, LLP created the Baystate Legal Defense Fund. As a member of the defense fund, you will not have to face those charges alone. Our attorneys are knowledgeable, aggressive and experienced trial lawyers, prepared to defend and protect you against lawsuits and criminal charges. As a member of the service, you will have access to a lawyer when you need one.
As a member of the Baystate Legal Defense Fund, you pay only annual dues. You will not be charged any legal fees for representation in any issue arising from the execution of your duties as a public employee.
Membership in the Baystate Legal Defense Fund provides representation at internal investigations, at departmental disciplinary hearings, at state or federal appeals, in civil lawsuits and in defense of criminal charges. These services are all included at no charge for members.

Personal injury: If a member of your family suffers an accidental injury, our lawyers will reduce our usual contingency fee, and we charge no fee unless you collect damages. Claims we handle include those involving the following:
